University Education:
I graduated with a B.Sc.(Hons) Degree in Mathematics from the University of Kelaniya ,
Sri Lanka in 1993 and then obtained Diploma in Mathematical Statistics from
the Cambridge University UK in 1998. This is the
Cambridge
University Statslab 1997 Photo. You can read the summary my applied project
here among others'.
And I was a research student in the Mase Laboratory
in the Department of
Mathematical and Computing Sciences of the Tokyo Institute of Technology Japan
for the year 2001/02 and then I obtained M.Sc.Degree and D.Sc. Degree in Mathematical and
Computing Sciences in 2004 and 2007
respectively from the same place. Here is my Doctoral Degree
Thesis which is
supervised by Prof. Shigeru
Mase .
Employments:
I was a Temporary Tutor in Mathematics at the University of Kelaniya ,
Sri Lanka for the Academic Year 1993/94 and then I worked as an Actuarial
Assistant in Union Assurance Ltd Colombo Sri Lanka for two years
(1994-1996). In 1996 I joined Wayamba University ,
Sri Lanka as a Lecturer in Mathematics.
Currently I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Akiyama Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science of the Tokyo Institute of Technology
Japan.
Publications:
Wijayatunga, P and Mase, S.

for Naive Bayes Classifiers", (2007) to appear in International Journal of
Statistics and Systems. Corresponding research report

"Appraisal of Companies with Bayesian Networks", (2006) International Journal
of Business Intelligence and Data Mining, Vol. 1, No. 3, pp.326-346.
Current Research Work:
I am working on protein interaction modeling, particularly I am interested in
text mining for discovering protein interactions with conditional random
fields. My interest is building prediction models and classifiers with
graphical models.
